However, I think I could appreciate his music better now, so I'd like to try again. Specifically, I'm looking for studio albums, not compilations or greatest hits.

What would be your top 2 or 3 albums of his best work to recommend to someone? Thank you all! Location: NYC. I'm going to recommend a compilation anyway. You can start with The Birth Of Soul. The original version is oop and then it was reissued without the fancy packaging which is very cool and without the DVD and that is available for a mere 32 bucks including shipping.

Ray's first label was Swingtime, but that was before he found his voice and he was ripping of the great Charles Brown. Atlantic was when he came into his own and then he moved to ABC. This is a reissue of the beautiful elaborate box set that compiles all of Ray Charles' recordings for the Atlantic Records label. The original issue, which can be found here Pure Genius: Complete Atlantic Recordings is a treasure: 7 CDs with the audio recordings, a DVD with some live material, a nice sized book, all housed in a very cute facsimile of an old record player.

Losing the cute packaging may be acceptable, but losing both the DVD and the bigger book is not. At least, not if you can get the original issue set for about the same price as a remainder--which is the case right now Pure Genius: Complete Atlantic Recordings I'm not going to take issue with these recordings--there is a wealth of greatness here, spanning both soul and jazz.

If you're looking at this box with any degree of seriousness you're already aware of that. Artist: Ray Charles. Album including Album cover.

We are updating our release dates twice a week. So, please feel free to check from time-to-time, if the album is available for your country. Ray Charles is a music legend beyond compare.
