A contract for two full-length albums was signed, and the band started to work on their second album, The Dawn of Flames. Before work on their second album began, Oskar and Niklas left the band due to personal disagreements with other band members. On March 25, , the album was released worldwide. The band reunited in On March 3, , drummer Oskar Karlsson died from heart failure.

Sandwiched between two solid yet ultimately unmemorable albums and before mutating into The Duskfall, Gates Of Ishtar released the distinct Dawn Of Flames. Like some, I was introduced through hearing "Trail of Tears" on Metal Blade/Death Records' Deathmeister compilation/5(13).
