It was recorded in but for one reason or another only surfaced a few years ago. Flipside "Knock On Wood", a cover of the Eddie Floyd soul favourite, was recorded a number of times by Ellis; this version is the superior Joe Gibbs take, which boasts some superb Hammond organ sounds and a defiantly dub-wise reggae riddim.
It's absolutely essential. Soul Flip Edits Volume 10 7". This time they turn their attention to the evergreen classic "Get Ready" from jazz great Ella Fitzgerald. The already student and empowering single is beefed up with drums that have extra kick, crisp hits and fills and string stabs that are as bright as the sun.
Things get a little more soulful and sun kissed with Tammi Terrell - "Two Can Have A Party" and its hip swinging finger clicks and gorgeously soaring strings. Lupita reissue 7" repress. That album was reissued a few years back by Mr Bongo; here 'Lupita' is given a rare airing on 7" single by Matasuna. This time round, the deliciously percussive mambo workout - all punchy horns, wild organs and vocal breakdowns - comes backed by a fresh remix courtesy of Bosq.
This version is arguably even better, with Bosq wisely choosing to focus on the drums, horns, bass and organs for added dancefloor pleasure.
Baila Chibiquiban 7" 1 per customer. Here they serve up another gem from the album, "Baila Chibiquiban", an Incredible Bongo Band-esque fusion of psychedelic rock, heavy funk and even heavier Afro-Cuban percussion. The fine original version is given the re-edit treatment on the flip, with Tonton Boom extending some percussive passages and emphasizing the killer groove before introducing some of the track's headier musical elements.
It's the kind of rework that should find favour with proper break-dancers. Wir Sind Die Welt 7". Black Pearl Germany. Haynesy Hip Hop Edits 2 7". Wah Dubplate. What we get here is not "edits", but rather banging new hip-hop beats laden with classic acapellas. On side A they bring Jungle Brothers' hip-house classic "I'll House You" back to its hip-hop roots, layering the NYC crew's famous vocals over a bustling, up-tempo, Latin-tinged hip-hop beat.
Over on the flip they take on Beastie Boys classic "Root Down", with Jabbathakut's tidy deck-work sparring with acapella vocals atop a weighty club hip-hop beat. Dr Packer Reworks Vol 2 12". He tackles some serious disco heavyweights here on Salsoul and first off, disco diva Loleatta Holloway and her mega-hit "Runaway" gets a fresh update with some soul uplifting studio skills.
A heavy funk remix of Rafael Cameron's "Let's Get It Off" is next, with the original still taking centre stage, then the shimmering and glistening disco gold of Ripple's "The Beat Goes On" follows before in-house collective The Salsoul Orchestra also get treated to some elegant orchestral work and a sultry vocal hook. Stolen Hours 7". Outta Sight. Remember To Remember remastered 12". Gold Mink US. Livingstone Remixes 12". New Dawn Holland.
Jibiti 7". Ubiquity US. Here, one of the album's standout tunes gets the remix treatment courtesy of long-serving, party-starting musical fusionist Bosq. The Ubiquity and Soul Clap stalwart delivers vocal and instrumental passes of "Jibiti", both of which make great use of Kaleta's vocals and Super Yamba Band's fuzzy, Fela Kuti-style horn lines.
Bosq's groove is closer in feel to Afro-disco than the original album version, though the bassline, organ stabs and vocals are pure Afrobeat gold. Switch genre. Switch view. Releases Last 8 Weeks. This record for Stones Throw finds him working with Peaking Lights' Aaron Coyes and Argentinian dubber Ivan Diaz Mathe on a series of heavyweight tunes that are brilliantly psychedelic.
The title track is a cosmic stepper then "No Age" is a wandering dub with oodles of trippy effects and stoner leads that make way for some of his textbook vocal musings on "Magik. My Jamaican Dub 7". The sound palette is consistent with both their music and that of the label, but the familiar dancefloor tropes have been jettisoned in favour of a more meditative end result, leading in with the achingly beautiful tundra excursion of "Beginning Of The End".
From there the album drifts with glacial motion through a range of finely crafted soundscapes, wielding a world of rumbling, harmonious noise in the middle distance without ever losing that seductive dub techno ambience. Stranger In Town 7". The bass is blistering and the effects subtle yet superb. The enveloping sub bass is present and correct and ensures this one will do plenty of club damage. What's more, it is taken from a forthcoming album so keep your eyes peeled for that one.

Taking slick metallic riffing, chaotic breakdowns, erratic time signatures and emo melodies, they have created a masterpiece of musicianship, energy and passion.
This is pure intense hardcore the way it should be played: nothin held back - creative, unique and blistering. Featuring guest appearances from matmos, dr. Flamenco, takeshi muto, jeswa, mr. You know what to expect from a schematic release by now, and this keeps up the unfeasably high standard. The title translates as "There's love for you and your corporeality - a freak" and the album is a cleverly thought-out, unconventional, ambivalent, German language rock long-player.
Workshop are often compared to Faust, Brigitte Fontaine, Neu, Gastr Del Sol and Pink Floyd, which gives you some idea of where they're coming from but definitely not the whole story. Excursions into dark and moody soundscapes, desolate frozen places and old forgotten stories. Esa Ruohos sound is definetely Scandinavian.

Miriodor of was a meeting ground of many of the best elements progressive rock has to offer. Mid-paced dark metal meets melodic art-rock! Their new album shows the band in top shape. Their music is packed with mood and sheer class. Richard Devine - Aleamapper CD on Schematic Devine's last lp, 'lipswitch' on warp in europe , was intended to be a full length project, but ended up being trimmed down to the essential rhythmic core.
What was left over is the heart of 'aleamapper'. The re-assembled result is not unlike a film score, and devine guides the music in the style of cinema's great directors, the 16 tracks appearing as a series of varying scenes that add up to a 64 minute whole suggesting an overall widescreen experience.
Those pointing to a lack of musicality in modern electronics will be please with 'aleamapper', devine's new compounds of sound being wide open for aural exploration, his subliminal details freely accompanying and frequently saturating the remaining spaces. If the first movies were silent visual films, perhaps the most modern are blind audible experiences. This album, appropriately entitled Pump, is a story of oil and love, petroleum and sex.

Matz - primarily known for the tangential, slow-core records he made with the austin band wftd - includes trace elements of math rock; brian eno-ish absract art; frayed, frizzed, and folky guitars; and isolated, spooky bass lines. The more straight - forward songs, such as "3 weeks" and "the hunt", are sparse and with trippy electronics and twisted, provoking lyrics.
The album concludes with a fairly literal yet lovely translation of the rolling stones "no expectations" nme's ten to watch from cmj in nyc. Inspired by the sounds of railways, their work has blended electro-acoustic production techniques, live playing and non-sequenced electronics in an effort to capture the spirit and emotion of rail travel. The propulsive, inexorable clank of steel on track forms the rhythmic backbone of the CHESSIE compositions, and makes a particularly American counterpart to the motorik rhythms of much post-Kraftwerk music.
Cylob's thoughts on the album: "Mood Bells was started after a two week trip to Japan where i got to check out a few temples , gardens and mountains. The unique vibe of these places inspired me. This album is my idea of a japanese traditional music that doesn't exist, based around bell and gong type sounds. The music is intended for contemplation and relaxation.
